My Tethered Soul Cover Reveal

Happy Cover Reveal day to my friend, Dorothy Dreyer!  Check out the cover for her latest installment, My Tethered Soul, which is book 2 in the Reapers Rite series.

It’s been months since Zadie faced her sister’s Reaper, months during which she’s been under her mentor’s magical protection. But now that she’s turning seventeen, that protection is about to run out.

When dark forces lure Zadie to wander at night, she’s manipulated into committing unspeakable acts. With her friends and family at risk, Zadie must try to use her powers to break free from the Reaper’s grasp, or surrender to the Reaper’s Rite, which can only lead to death.

Add it to your Goodreads list.

If you haven't read the first book in the series yet get it now!  I read My Sister's Reaper a few months ago and LOVED it.  You can check out the review here.

Dorothy Dreyer has always believed in magic. Born in Angeles City, Philippines, to a Filipino mother and American Father, Dorothy grew up a military brat, living in Massachusetts, South Dakota, Guam, New Jersey, and New York. She now lives in Frankfurt, Germany, with her husband, two teens, and two Siberian huskies. Dorothy not only writes books with some element of magic in them, but has a fondness for reading those kinds of books as well. She also enjoys movies, chocolate, take-out, and spending time with family and friends. She’s known to make a pretty sweet cupcake when she has the time. She also tends to sing sometimes, so keep her away from your Karaoke bars.

Matched Book Review

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

What if everything was planned out for you?  What if everything was decided based on genetics, your talents, your nutritional needs, even your partner in life?  Welcome to the world of Matched.  A place where you are studied your entire life and everything is done scientifically.   Things are so well matched that over the years they’ve “matched out” disease, defects in genes and most crime. In fact everyone lives to their ideal age of 80.  Everyone dies on his or her 80th birthday.

Cassia Reyes has just turned 17 and is at her Matching Ceremony. This is where they reveal with whom you’ve been Matched.  This is based on likes, interests, compatibility and gene compatibility.  You are Matched at a young age because they must give you enough time to get to know each other before you start having kids, at the perfect breeding age. Cassia is matched with a good friend, Xander.  It’s extremely rare for this to happen.  People are usually Matched with someone from another province, a complete stranger.  Once Matched you are given a silver box with a microcard that’s filled with information so you can learn about your Match.  When Cassia plugs in her microcard Xander’s face shows up for a moment…then fades away and another boy from her province, Ky, appears.

Cassia is very confused and afraid.  The Society doesn’t make mistakes.  She is confronted by an Offical and they let her know it must be a glitch and they will get to the bottom of it.  Xander is her Match, not Ky.  Cassia has always trusted The Society, but now wonders why she is developing feelings for Ky.  This causes her to rebel and see The Society for what it truly is.  Will she defy them and attempt to create her own life, or will she conform and stay with her Match?  Through her struggles you will learn there is something much deeper going on with The Society.

Condie has done an amazing job with world and character building.  I loved the dystopian world, but it was a clean and happy dystopian world.  It was almost like utopian cleanliness and happiness in a dystopian world.  What a fresh idea.  I also appreciated the it was a clean (free of cuss words) YA novel.  Those seem to be rare lately.  I can’t wait to read the next editions and see what the outer provinces are like and what has become of Cassia, Ky and Xander.  I give it 5 out of 5 donuts.

Find it on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and add it to your Goodreads list.

Martyr Cover Reveal

Happy cover reveal to A.R. Kahler!  Check out the awesome cover and poll at the bottom.  Kahler is graciously giving away a portion of the proceeds to one of the charities below.

Book Blurb:
Three years have passed since magic destroyed the world.
Those who remain struggle to survive the monsters roaming the streets, fighting back with steel and magic—the very weapons that birthed the Howls in the first place.
Tenn is one such Hunter, a boy with the ability to harness the elements through ancient runes. For years, the Hunters have used this magic to keep the monsters at bay, but it's never been enough to truly win the war. Humans are losing.

When Tenn falls prey to an incubus named Tomás and his terrifying Kin, Tenn learns there's more to this than a fight for survival. He's a pawn in a bigger game, one with devastating consequences. If he doesn't play his part, it could cost him his life, his lover and his world.

Alex's Bio:
Alex is many things, but first and foremost, he's a Sagittarius.

In the past few years he's taught circus in Amsterdam and Madrid, gotten madly lost in the Scottish wilderness, drummed with Norse shamans, and received his Masters in creative writing from Glasgow University. And that's the abbreviated list.

He is the author of the tantalizing CIRQUE DES IMMORTELS trilogy, which debuted in 12/12 from 47North. MARTYR, the first book in his post-apocalyptic YA fantasy series, THE HUNTED, will be published 10/14 by Spencer Hill Press.

When he's not writing or climbing in the rafters, he's probably outside, staring at the clouds. And seeing as he now resides in Seattle, there are clouds aplenty.

He can be followed on Twitter @ARKahler or at
