Apollyon Book Review

Fate isn’t something to mess with… and now, neither is Alex.

Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back.

The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.

Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself

Where to start with this review?  When we left off in the novella, Elixir, Alex had Awakened and was possessed by Seth through their connection.  Apollyon starts off with Aiden trying to break the connection and get Alex back to normal.  For “Team Aiden” fans the first half of this book will be gut wrenching.  On the flip side, “Team Seth” fans will get a kick out of “Evil Alex.”   He perseveres and never loses faith in Alex, and after a pretty awesome fight scene he is able to break the connection and get Alex back.

When Alex is herself again she finds out that the world is falling apart.  The gods are ticked because they can’t find Alex and destroy her. They know if she sees Seth she will transfer her powers to him, making him The God Killer.  So they are destroying the earth to try and draw her out. She is force to go to Hades and find the solution so no one has to die and the world will survive.

Apollyon has so many layers.  Alex has grown up and is making better decisions.  The fight scenes are pretty epic and the mythology is in the forefront. Armentrout has perfected the balance of love and action.  Her writing flows so perfectly you’ll find yourself lost in Apollyon.  I give it 5 out of 5 donuts.

But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she canÆt stop thinking about him. Half the time, sheÆs not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.
