Pizza Crossed Lovers

Ordering pizza is not usually a notable event, but last weekend I had some family in town and needed to feed the troops.  No one was in the mood to cook for such a large group, so we decided to order pizza instead.  Naturally in such a large group there were a lot of different requests.  By the time it was all said and done we settled on a few different types of pizza and ordered both Papa Johns (PJ) and Dominos (Dee).

Nothing is as exciting as hearing your doorbell when you are expecting food.  I heard the bell, sprang to my feet, opened the door and saw a young Domino’s delivery girl at my door.  You can imagine my horror as I greeted the delivery girl when out of the corner of my eye I saw the Papa John’s car pulling up the drive at that very moment.  I immediately started sweating and got nervous.  I felt like I just got caught cheating.  Out of panic I invited her into our kitchen and had Jeena take care of the Dominos order.  I raced back outside to the driveway and met the Papa John’s delivery boy on the sidewalk and tried to play it cool like I wasn’t hiding a Dominos delivery girl inside my house.

“Heeeey,” I said.

“Hey man.  I have some pizza here, it’s 27 bucks”

“Cool” I handed him a $50 and shifted my eyes back to the front door to check to see if the coast was clear, which it wasn’t.  I started to panic and had shortness of breath because at that moment Dee walked out.  I became so flustered and nervous that I forgot how to do math and said, “Just give me $5 back.”

He smiled and said, “Thanks for the tip.”

“Yeah no worries.  Hey maybe you could get a date.” I blurted out and I nodded towards Dee implying that PJ and Dee would make a great slice together.

“I feel like I’m on some sort of hidden camera show,” he said and walked away awkwardly.

I laughed, took my pizza and went back inside to eat.  A few minutes later the landline rang.  It was PJ.

“Hey, did you mean to give me and $18 tip?”

I didn’t, but of course I was going to tell him that or make him come back to give me some of the tip back.

“Yeah, hope it makes your Saturday great, and I hope you got a date out of it too.”

And guess what?  He did.  Guess I can add matchmaker to my resume!
